Sustainable Innovations was founded in 2007 by Dr. Trent Molter to develop and manufacture innovative products based on a proprietary, low-cost, large format electrochemical platform that transforms waste gases and power into higher value forms. Sustainable Innovations’ products serve critical energy and industrial applications having tremendous global commercial and societal value. Our revolutionary, high-pressure proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology builds upon prior private and public investment of over $1 billion in the low-carbon economy and places us in a unique position to address large robust markets having significant commercial and societal importance.
Dr. Trent Molter has been active in the hydrogen and fuel cell community since 1984. Dr. Molter has developed proton exchange membrane based products for commercial hydrogen production, automotive power and fueling, space and military life support, aircraft environmental control, space propulsion. He lead the technology transfer of GE’s Direct Energy Conversion Operation to United Technologies Corporation. Dr. Molter co-founded Proton Energy Systems, Inc. in 1996 to commercialize PEM electrolyzers and regenerative fuel cells. He was instrumental in Proton’s growth to a publicly traded company with over 140 employees, $160 million in cash and a market capitalization of nearly $1 billion. He is listed as an inventor on over thirty patents for various electrochemical and other novel devices and materials. Dr. Molter holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University, an M.S. in Metallurgy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
